Description
Indications of Salmolin-L 100 ml
Salmolin-L 100 ml is indicated for the treatment and prevention of bronchospasm in adults, adolescents & children of 6 years of age and older with reversible obstructive airway diseases.
Theropeutic Class
Short-acting selective & ?2-adrenoceptor stimulants
Pharmacology
Salmolin-L 100 ml is a single isomer beta-2 agonist that differs from racemic salbutamol by elimination of (S)-salbutamol. Salmolin-L 100 ml is an effective bronchodilator whose primary mechanism of action is not inhibited by (S)-salbutamol.Thus, when compared with racemic salbutamol, clinically comparable bronchodilation can be achieved. Salmolin-L 100 ml produces bronchodilatation through stimulation of beta-2-adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscles, thereby causing relaxation of bronchial muscle fibres.
Dosage & Administration of Salmolin-L 100 ml
Children (6 -11 years): 5 ml (1 mg), three times daily.Adults and adolescents above 12 years: 5-10 ml (1-2 mg), three times daily.
Interaction of Salmolin-L 100 ml
Other short-acting sympathomimetic bronchodilators or epinephrine should be used with caution with Salmolin-L 100 ml. If additional adrenergic drugs are to be administered by any route, they should be used with caution to avoid deleterious cardiovascular effects.
Contraindications
Salmolin-L 100 ml is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Salmolin-L 100 ml or any of its components.
Side Effects of Salmolin-L 100 ml
Hypocalcaemia, palpitation, fine tremors of the skeletal muscle and muscle cramps may occur. The other likely side effects are nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain and diarrhoea.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The drug should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk of the fetus. It is not known whether Salmolin-L 100 ml is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when oral Salmolin-L 100 ml is administered to a nursing woman.
Precautions & Warnings
Particular caution is advised in acute severe asthma as this effect may be potentiated by hypoxia and by concomitant treatment with xanthine derivatives, steroids and diuretics. Serum potassium levels should be monitored in such situations.
Storage Conditions
Keep in dry place and away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
